On 4 and 5 July we held a two-day intensive course for beginners.
7 hours of training, split over two days - a solid dose of krav maga to spice up the weekend! Everyone who took part showed impressive progress, some well beyond what could be expected in two short days! This was so much fun to teach and those who took part seemed to have a good time. I say it was a success! I'm happy to see that the group of members has grown steadily, and most are regulars that come to almost every class. This is a great development, and I'm happy because it tells me that people must like the classes. But it also means that very soon there won't be enough space in the room that we have!
So I either get a larger space, add more classes, or turn down new people who want to join. I don't want to be left with the last option, so I've chosen the other two: getting a larger space and adding more classes. At our pub night this week someone (who has asked to remain anonymous) mentioned the song-based drills that we have done a couple of times. I believe he said that they were great fun and that we should do more of those (at least that's what I heard, but I'm a foreigner, so I may have misunderstood ;-) But there definitely was a suggestion for a variation on a drill, which we will try out in a class in the near future. In the meantime, here are the ones we have done so far: More Time and Space!
In September we'll be starting a new class in a larger room at the North Merchiston club, in the sports hall downstairs. So we'll have more space to move, and space for more people! With all the practical things sorted I can now start thinking ahead and plan new Rencounter events. The first thing I want to do is to hold a krav maga introduction course for ladies only, hoping to introduce more women to the awesomeness that is Krav Maga. We are now into the 5th week of krav maga classes at the North Merchiston club. There have been new people at the induction classes almost every week, and a fair number of people have joined the club. I’m very happy with the group we have so far; it’s a good mix of people, men and women, different ages, and different occupations (except for a surprisingly high number of computer scientists/IT people). They’re all good people who help each other learn and make the classes fun to teach and to take part in.
