Women's Self Defence Workshop at Rencounter

To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25th Nov) we are holding a dedicated workshop for women the following week, 3rd December.

This workshop will be a mix of physical and non-physical training, expect about 50/50 of each. We will look at sharpening our skills for spotting potential threats and taking action to avoid or prevent physical violence if possible. And we will work on how to use physical force to break away when we don't have other options. Our goal is for women to leave feeling empowered and more confident in their own strength and abilities.

Some of the topics we will cover include:

  • Situational awareness
  • Types of violence and early warning signs
  • Boundary setting
  • Talk about different strategies and instinctive responses, including the freeze response.
  • How to generate power and aim for vulnerable points
  • Defending against strikes
  • Dealing with grabs and holds

Teaching the workshop will be Linn Haraldsvik, KMG Expert Level 1 and head instructor at Rencounter, and Dan Trailescu, Black Belt in Aikido and Conflict Communication instructor. Both are certified women's self defence instructors with #500 Rising.

[*] No questions asked concession. We want to make this workshop accessible to as many as possible who need these skills. We hope that if you can afford to pay the full price that you will support the work that we do.

500 Rising logo

This workshop is taught in conjunction with #500 Rising, a non-profit organisation whose goal is to make a difference in the stubborn statistics of violence against women. Their first mission is training female instructors in essential self defense, and they support these women as they reach out to their communities. The 500 Rising programme is created by women, with the reality that women experience in mind.

Any profits from this workshop go toward the further education of Women's Self-Defence instructors.

Equipment Requirements

You don’t need any equipment to take part: wear clothes that you are comfortable to move around in, and a bottle of water.
