Introduction to Krav Maga

July 4-5, 2015. Course for beginners, no experience needed.

Do you want a fast track to gaining effective self-defence skills? This intensive course will give you a good foundation of skills in the renowned Israeli self-defence and tactical fighting system – Krav maga.

Learn the basics of krav maga, the most practical martial art out there, used by civilians, armed forces, and law enforcement around the world. In addition to punches and kicks, you will also learn how to defend against different attacks and real-life scenarios.

Being able to defend when you are tired is a key skill in reality-based training, so expect drills that will really get your heart rate going! You will learn how to kick and punch using your whole body, so your core muscles will also get a good workout.

Krav maga is made to work for everyone, regardless of age, gender, and physical fitness. You don’t have to be very flexible or particularly strong. Krav maga is designed to work in real life, in all sorts of conditions, against larger opponents, and from positions of disadvantage. There are no rules – it is a self-defence system, so dirty tricks are not only allowed but encouraged. Techniques in the system are made to stop an attacker as quickly and effectively as possible, so that you can stay safe.

In this course we will cover

  • Basic kicks and punches
  • Attacks to different distances and directions
  • Vulnerable points
  • Timeline of an attack
  • Defences against some common attacks
  • Common reactions to stress/violence
  • Awareness, avoidance, and de-escalation
  • Determination drills

After this course you will have some very effective basic tools that could help you in a self-defence situation; you will have some experience with the techniques and training methods of krav maga; you will know more about how the body reacts in threatening situations; and if you want to learn more you will be well prepared to join our regular krav maga classes.

Both sessions run from 12:00 to 15:30 at the North Merchiston Club.

The price for the whole course is only £60, or £45 for students.
